Building better tomorrows for kids in Fiji

Building better tomorrows for kids in Fiji......

Creating positive impact is at the core of everything we do at Jeunesse.

One of the ways we embody this message is through the work we do via our philanthropic arm, Jeunesse Kids. By raising funds to support children in disadvantaged communities, the charities we support provide funds for education, nutrition and healthcare to give kids a brighter future.

In our region, Jeunesse Kids recently partnered with Lila Pratap, founder of Damini Women's Association of QLD. The association’s mission is to protect the children of Fiji, and promote a positive and skill based environment while empowering the children.

Jeunesse Australia, New Zealand and Fiji General Manager Rachel McVinish said the team was very proud to be able to support Lila in the work she does in Fiji, a country which is dear to her heart and those of many of our distributors.

“We donated AU$2000 to the Nabobuco District School, which is located in the rural Province of Naitasiri-Ra on Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island.”

“By providing essential school supplies for the start of the 2018 school year as a part of their Fiji Kids’ Project, we’re making a real difference in the lives of children in Fiji,” Rachel said.

The school is surrounded by mountains and sits 4000 feet above sea level. The road to the school is 60km of gravel and when it rains heavily, as it does regularly in the summer season, the road is often closed for days at a time.

Around 305 children from five villages attend Nabobuco District School, six days a week.

Rachel notes that poverty is most visible in rural parts of Fiji, like the area around Nabobuco, where it affects up to 43% of the population. 31% of the population live below the poverty line.

“The cost of school supplies and transportation is very high, given income levels for many Fijians,” Rachel says. “Because of that, only 65% of children are enrolled at the primary level and 33% at the secondary level.”

Programs like the Fiji Kids’ Project are a way to help ensure children can stay at school longer, and help reduce the chances that they will end up unemployed if they have to leave school too young and without a proper education.

Head Teacher at the Nabobuco District School, Emitai V Waqalevu, conveyed the thanks of the school, and said the children loved the supplies they received.

“On behalf of the school and especially the underprivileged children…our most sincere gratitude for your kindness. We have noticed their eagerness to attend school daily now because they have new things,” Emitai said.

Jeunesse Kids is all about empowering communities to give children a brighter future, something the Fiji Kids’ Project is certainly doing.

“By supporting this project, we’re doing our bit towards giving Fijian children a chance in life so that one day hopefully they can be financially secure, happy adults,” Rachel explains. “And maybe they’ll even consider a career in MLM, or with Jeunesse!”

We were very excited recently to support the Fiji Kids Project through the Damini Women's Association of QLD.

Our donation of AU$2000 to the Nabobuco District School will help provide essential school supplies for the start of the 2018 school year.

As our GM Rachel McVinish said, “we’re making a real difference in the lives of children in Fiji through this project.”
